ライティング力が上がるリーディング[17]---調査報道機関の「使命」の書き方

報道に携わる企業や団体は、どこも「真実を伝える」という使命をもって行動していると思います。（思いたいです。）

今日の「ライティング力が上がるリーディング」では、会社や組織の説明を英語で書いてみるという点にフォーカスしたライティングにしてみました。説明の日本語に英文を付け加えると、国際的なイメージが出ると思います。

会社や組織についての説明では、ほとんどMission（使命）が書かれています。日本語にすると、少し立派すぎてかえって引いてしまいそうな感じがするものもあります。ニューヨーク市（マンハッタン）を本拠地とする、ProPublica（プロパブリカ）という調査報道機関の使命、自分たちの活動の説明はどういう書き方をしているでしょうか？自身の会社や組織に参考になる点があれば、お手本にしてみましょう。

👩🏼‍🏫ProPublica（プロパブリカ）は、ピューリッツァー賞を複数回受賞するなど、その報道姿勢が高く評価されています。

The Mission

使命

To expose abuses（乱用） of power and betrayals of（～に対する裏切り） the public trust by government, business, and other institutions, using the moral force of investigative journalism to spur（促進する） reform through the sustained spotlighting of wrongdoing.

政府、企業、その他の機関による権力の乱用や公共の信頼に対する裏切りを暴き、調査報道の道徳的力を用いて不正行為を持続的に追及することで改革を促すこと。

ProPublica is an independent, nonprofit newsroom that produces investigative journalism with moral force. We dig deep into important issues, shining a light on abuses of power （権力の乱用）and betrayals of public trust （公共の信頼への裏切り）— and we stick with (粘り強く取り組む）those issues as long as it takes to hold power to account（説明力を持つ）.

As a New York-based news organization, we have also long covered accountability issues in our own backyard.

Our past work has investigated issues of police accountability, how New York City landlords （家主） sidestep （回避する）tenant protections, problems with DNA testing techniques used by the city’s medical examiner, and how a housing program for mentally ill New Yorkers （精神的な疾患をもつ市民）has proven unsafe and sometimes deadly （致命的）.
