「薬物」とか、「ドラッグ」というと、必ず犯罪と結びついているイメージがありますが、最近の英語の記事では、薬物乱用とか薬物中毒を"drug abuse"、"drug addiction"と言わずに、"substance abuse"と言っています。日本語では、まだそれを「薬物乱用」と表現している（？）かもしれませんが、ニュアンスが随分ちがいます。「物質」と訳される"substance"とは、英語の定義として、
"a particular type of solid, liquid, or gas"（ロングマンより）
「個体、液体、ガスの一定の特性をもつ物質」
とされています。これを、「物質乱用」と表現してしまうと、何を乱用しているのか分からなくなるので、まだ「薬物乱用」としているのでしょう。そのうち、違う表現が出てくると思います。。。

1. What substances does STARS offer treatment research studies for?

At the moment, STARS has research studies for:
今のところSTARSが調査研究対象としている物質は次の通りです。

In the past, we have also had studies for nicotine and benzodiazopenes (e.g. Xanax, Klonopin).

Note that if you're using more than one substance, you may still be eligible for our studies.

2. I may have an addiction problem, and I am interested in treatment. How do I know if I am eligible to enroll in a study at STARS?
自分は依存症ではないかと思っているので、治療を受けたいと思っています。自分がSTARSの研究対象として取り上げられるかどうか、どのようにしたら分かるのですか？

The easiest way to find out is to submit your contact information here and one of our intake coordinators will call you back within 24 hours to ask you a few basic questions and schedule a free initial evaluation at our Columbus Circle clinic.
最も簡単な方法は次のような流れです。まずこのセンターに連絡先に関する情報を提出していただきます。それから24時間以内に担当コーディネーターがお電話さしあげ、いくつか質問を致します。そして当コロンバスサークルクリニックで無料の初診予約をさせていただきます。

3. What happens once I show up to my initial screening appointment?
初めに行うスクリーニング検査ではどういうことをするのですか？

During the screening visit, you will meet with a psychiatrist, psychotherapist and a nurse practitioner to perform both a mental health evaluation and a physical examination. This includes taking vital signs, obtaining an EKG, and drawing your blood.
スクリーニング検査では、精神科医、心理療法士、上級看護士とお話しいただき、心身の両面で検査いたします。血圧や脈拍などをとったり、心電図や血液検査をしたりします。

You should bring a government-issued photo ID–like a Driver's license, passport, EBT card, etc.
政府発行の写真付きのID（運転免許証、パスポート、EBT--食糧切符---カード）をお持ちください。

If you have any particular medical documentation that you feel might be relevant for us to know, please bring a copy along as well.
もし、何か治療に関する資料など、役に立つかもしれないとお考えのものがあれば、コピーしてお持ちください。

4. What if I am found to be ineligible for a research study? How will I get treatment?
もし研究対象にならないとなればどうなりますか？治療は受けられないのでしょうか？

If you are ineligible to participate, we will provide you with referrals to other treatment programs.
もし研究対象ではないとなれば、他の治療プログラムをご紹介いたします。

5. Will I have a chance to ask questions about the study before I am enrolled?
登録する前に研究について質問することはできますか？

All participants are provided a written document explaining the study procedures. They are also encouraged both before signing up for the study and as the study progresses to ask questions about the study.
ご協力いただく方にはすべて研究の進め方について書いた書類をお渡しします。登録なさる前、研究が進行中のどちらの際にもご質問があれば遠慮無くお申し出ください。

6. How much will my treatment cost? Does STARS require me to provide insurance? 
費用はどのくらいかかりますか？STARSは保険に加入していないと受けられませんか？

All services including therapy, psychiatric assessments, and medical treatment are provided absolutely free of charge, with no need for insurance.
施術、精神査定、治療を含む、全てのサービスは無料です。保険加入は必要ありません。
