ニューヨークの旧正月の祝い方

ニューヨークのイベント情報誌、Time Outを見ていて、旧正月のことを考えています。１ヵ月ほど前になりますが、今年の旧正月は2月17日だったようです。ニューヨークでは新暦の正月の１月１日より、旧正月のお祝いの方が派手に行われます。１月１日のイベントでは、タイムズスクェアで行われるカウントダウンが唯一の派手な行事で、それが終わるとお店も会社も平常営業です。

日本ではお正月が一年で最も大きなイベントで、旧正月のことはほとんど話題になりません。十二支や年号制度は引き継がれているのに、なぜ旧正月を祝わないのでしょう？

歴史的には、日本は、明治6年（1873年）に太陽暦へ完全移行し、旧正月は国家として廃止されています。（旧正月の文化は沖縄・奄美・一部の漁村などに細々と残るのみのようです。）旧正月は、古い昔のことといったとらえ方です。

それに対して、ニューヨークには、中国・台湾・韓国・ベトナムなど、旧正月文化圏の移民が多く定住しているため、彼らが文化を持ち込み、コミュニティの核として維持しています。 市も公式に祝日として扱っています。（公立学校は旧正月の始めの日はお休みです。）つまり、旧正月が「移民文化の誇り」として発展し続けているのです。

今回は、ニューヨークの旧正月がいかに大々的に行われているかを、情報サイトのTime Outで見たいと思います。（以下の文章は今年の旧正月前の記事を使用しました。現在は元の記事は削除されています。）

1. Lunar（太陰の） New Year Parade 2026

Chinatown’s annual Lunar (Chinese) New Year Parade is back on March 1, 2026, with dragon dancing, stunning（素晴らしい） outfits（衣装）, martial art（武術） performers and more. チャイナタウンの恒例旧正月パレードが2026年3月1日に開催されます。龍舞、華麗な衣装、武術演武などが見どころです。爆竹の鳴り響く中で踊り終えたら、チャイナタウンで最高のカラオケや美味しい中華料理店などもチェックしましょう。

Gallop（全速力で走る） into the Lunar New Year at the Museum of Chinese in America with an energizing（活気づける） evening of Taiwanese mahjong, musical performances, Asian-American refreshments（軽食） (Catmint Wheel Cake, Rose’s Pineapple Shorts) and more. 

アメリカ華人博物館で活気ある夜をすごして旧正月を迎えましょう。台湾式麻雀や音楽パフォーマンスがあり、アジア系アメリカンのお菓子（キャットミント・ホイールケーキ、ローズのパイナップルショート）などが楽しめます。

3. The Sound of Spring: A Chinese New Year Concert with The Orchestra Now

オーケストラ・ナウによる旧正月コンサート「サウンド・オブ・スプリング」が開催されます。

The Orchestra Now and conductor Jindong Cai will ring in the Year of the Horse on February 15 at "The Sound of Spring," featuring guest appearances by winds（管楽器） virtuoso（巨匠） Yazhi Guo, plus young performers from the legendary Central Conservatory（音楽学校） of Music in Beijing and the groundbreaking（画期的な） US-China Music Institute（研究所） at Bard College. 

２月15日、オーケストラ・ナウと指揮者蔡金東が「サウンド・オブ・スプリング」で、午年（うまどし）を祝います。ゲスト出演には管楽器の巨匠郭亜芝に加え、北京の有名な音楽院である中央音楽学院とバード大学内の画期的な米中音楽研究所から若手演奏家たちが登場します。

4. Lunar New Year | Year of the Horse at Genesis House

ジェネシス・ハウスにて旧正月（午年）の祝賀会があります

Genesis House, the multi-use MePa venue that's part contemporary restaurant, part cultural showroom and part event space, is serving up special Korean delicacies（ご馳走） to celebrate Lunar New Year and Asian heritage. From February 17 through 22, enjoy a festive menu inspired by renewal and prosperity and rooted in traditional Korean flavors, with offerings like a Year of the Horse cocktail (made with clementine, mint, apple liqueur and demerara) and tteokmanduguk, a traditional Korean New Year’s soup made with a rich beef bone broth（スープ）, beef dumplings and scallions（春玉ねぎ）.

多目的施設「ジェネシス・ハウス」（現代レストラン、文化ショールーム、イベントスペースを併せ持つMePa地区の会場）では、旧正月とアジアの文化遺産を祝う特別韓国料理を提供します。2月17日から22日まで、再生と繁栄を象徴し伝統的な韓国の味に根ざしたお祝いメニューをお楽しみください。「午年カクテル」（クレメンタイン、ミント、アップルリキュール、デメララ砂糖使用）やトックマンドゥグク（牛肉の骨から取った濃厚なスープに牛肉の団子とスカリオン（春玉ねぎ）を入れた伝統的な韓国の新年のスープ）などのメニューもあります。

👩🏼‍🏫MePa （ミーパ）地区とは、Meatpacking District のことです。

5. Lunar New Year Celebration at Lincoln Center

 February 22 from 11am to 3pm, the festivities（祝祭行事） will include dance performances from Tai Look Lion Dance Company, traditional Korean music by Insun Park & Generals, hands-on（実地体験できる） arts and crafts with Shanghai Museum, a K-pop dance party from Brooklyn-based collective BIAS with DJ KA WAI and Not Shy Dance Crew, a family-friendly storytime（読み聞かせ） session with award-winning author Monique Truong and, of course, plenty of delicious food to savor（賞味する）. 

2月22日（日）午前11時から午後3時まで、タイ・ルック獅子舞団による舞踊パフォーマンス、パク・インソン＆ジェネラルズによる韓国伝統音楽、上海博物館主催の体験型アート＆クラフト、ブルックリン拠点のコレクティブBIASによるK-POPダンスパーティー（DJ KA WAI＆Not Shy Dance Crew出演）、受賞作家モニーク・トゥルオンによる家族向けストーリータイム、そしてもちろん、美味しい料理の数々が楽しめます。

6. Lunar New Year at Hudson Yards

See traditional lion dances and ribbon twirling（クルクル回すこと） in this event series hosted at The Shops at Hudson Yards in partnership with the New York Chinese Cultural Center. Free performances will be held every other Saturday through February 22, including Dunhuang dance and Shaolin kung fu. There will also be free lantern-making workshops in partnership with the New York Chinese Cultural Center held on February 4 and 11.  

ハドソンヤード・ザ・ショップスにて、ニューヨーク中華文化センターとの共催で伝統的な獅子舞やリボン回しを披露するイベントシリーズを開催します。2月22日まで隔週土曜日に無料公演が行われます（敦煌舞踊・少林拳法を含む）。さらに2月4日と11日には、ニューヨーク中華文化センターとの共催による無料ランタン制作ワークショップが開催されます。

７. Altar（祭壇）-Making with Think!Chinatown for Lunar New Year

To ring in（（新しい年を）迎える） the Year of the Horse, join the Tenement Museum and Think!Chinatown for a special workshop on altar-making. Held on Monday, February 23 from 6pm to 8pm, participants（参加者） in the workshop will learn about the elements of altars and alter-making and see the newly installed altar in the Museum's garment（衣類） factory exhibit. 

午年を迎えるにあたり、テネメント博物館と「考えよう！チャイナタウン」が共催する祭壇制作ワークショップにご参加ください。2月23日（月）午後6時から8時まで開催される本ワークショップでは、祭壇の構成要素や制作技法を学び、博物館の縫製工場展示コーナーに新設された祭壇をご覧いただけます。

８. Mahjong Monday Lunar New Year Celebration

月曜日はマージャンをして旧正月を祝おう

On February 24 from 5–9pm, we’re teaming up with The New York Games to transform the market into a lively Mahjong party filled with energy, tradition, and community. Whether you’re a seasoned（熟練した） player or completely new to the game, this night is all about coming together, learning, and celebrating the season.

2月24日午後5時～9時、ザ・ニューヨーク・ゲームズの協力で、市場はエネルギーと伝統、交流に満ちた活気あふれる麻雀パーティーへとその姿を変えます。ベテランプレイヤーも初心者も、この夜は共に学び、季節を祝うための集いです。

👩🏼‍🏫ニューヨークではコミュニティや自分のルーツを重視した文化的要素が強いようです。

合衆国全体が旧暦制度を廃止したということもありません。日本は国が旧暦制度を公式に廃止しましたが、一方で西暦を導入し、天皇制の継続と共に年号制度も国が制定しています。こうした点が他のアジア諸国とは違うのだということが分かりました。
