While deciding on purchases, especially on Amazon, I always look at the reviews. If the product has lots of sales and reviews, then for the most part, I believe they are true. Otherwise, I am skeptical about the reviews. I always have the suspicion that the company bought the reviews to bring in more sales. 

購入を決めるとき、特にアマゾンでは、いつもレビューを見ます。その商品に多くの販売実績とレビューがあれば、ほとんどの場合、それらに虚偽はないと思います。そうでなければ、私はレビューを信頼しません。いつも会社がより多くの売上をもたらすためにレビューを買ったのではないかと疑っています。

While I appreciate those who write reviews online, I never write them. I bought the product already, and that’s all that matters. I don’t want to waste my time writing something that won’t be much help to me, or anybody really. I don’t mean it in a selfish way; I love helping out others. However, in the large sea of reviews, I highly doubt that mine will be very influential on others.

ネットでレビューを書いてくれる人には感謝しますが、私は書きません。その製品を買ったら、重要なのはそのことだけ。実際自分にとっても誰かにとってもそんなに役に立たないだろうと思うし、（レビューを書く）時間がもったいないのです。自分勝手にそう思っているつもりはないですよ。他の人の役には立ちたいです。でも、多くのレビューの海の中で、私のレビューが他の人に大きな影響を与えるとはとても思えないのです。

I do read reviews to help me make decisions about anything I purchase online. The reviews can give you potential warning signs of the product. I'll look at a few 5 star ones then search for one star reviews so I can get a more rounded opinion on if the product is worth buying. It just depends on what site you're using, who's the seller, the ratings, and much more to know if it's an awful item. 

私はレビューを読みますよ。オンラインでの商品購入に役に立ちます。レビューを読めば、その商品の購入にはリスクがあるかどうかが分かります。星5つのレビューをいくつか見てから、星1つのレビューを探し、その商品に買う価値があるかどうか、より一般的な意見を得られるようにします。ひどい商品かどうかは、どのサイトを使っているのか、販売者は誰か、評価はどうか、などによります。

If a product has all 5 star reviews and it promises things that are not possible, it's natural selection at that point. I always look into everything since reviews can be deceiving either its good or bad. In general though, I would always read multiple reviews especially if it is appliances or clothes. When it comes to books or entertainment in general, I take every review with a grain of salt since it's all subjective. 

レビューが5つ星ばかりで、あり得ないことを書いているものなら、その時点で買わないと決めるのが当然でしょう。私は、レビューが良いものでも悪いものでも、嘘であることがあるので、いつもすべて調べます。一般的に、特に電化製品や洋服の場合は、必ず複数のレビューを読みます。普通の本やエンターテイメントに関しては、主観的なものなので、話半分で読みます。

I always check reviews before trying a new restaurant or buying something online. To spot fake ones, I compare reviews from different places like Google and Tripadvisor for restaurants or various websites for products. Even though there are tools to catch fake reviews, it's still tricky. Sharing feedback matters a lot—it helps others make smart choices. That's why I always try to leave a review after a purchase or a meal out.

新しいレストランに行ったり、オンラインで何かを買ったりする前には、必ずレビューをチェックします。怪しいレビューかどうか見分けるには、レストランならグーグルとトリップアドバイザー、商品なら様々なウェブサイトのレビューを比較します。偽のレビューを見つけるツールはありますが、それを使うのは面倒です。フィードバックを教えてあげることは他の人が賢い選択をするのに役立つと思うので、購入や外食の後には必ずレビューを書くようにしています。
