幼稚園から芸術学校というと、普通の学業が心配になりますね。

ニューヨークの公立校、スペシャル・ミュージック・スクールでは、一般の学業ももちろん行っており、授業料はすべて無料です。芸術関係は部活動のレベルが高いものといったイメージで考えればいいと思います。その授業料はすべて寄付で賄われています。一流の指導者が揃っており、カーネギーホールなどの一流のプロが使うホールが使うことができます。

今日は、実際に生徒や、指導者、保護者の生の声を集めた動画を見たいと思います。

Intro to Special Music School High School

（生徒）
The music runs through the hallways. You can hear people singing and playing cello or piano in every hallway of there of this school. It's really great.

廊下には音楽が流れています。この学校のどの廊下でも、誰かが歌ったりチェロやピアノを弾いたりしているのが聞こえます。本当に素晴らしいです。

（先生）
The music program at the high school is very unique. It's very progressive music program. The SMS is different than other performing arts high school's, mainly because of the very individualized attention that each student will get.

高校の音楽プログラムはとてもユニークです。とても先進的な音楽プログラムです。スペシャル・ミュージック・スクール（SMS）は他の芸術高校とは違います。それは主に、生徒一人一人に注意を払って指導してくれるからです。

The one-to-one relationships the students have with their teachers and advisors is truly unique and you're not just a number here.

生徒と先生やアドバイザーとの1対1の関係は実にユニークで、ここでは生徒は単なる大勢の中の一人ではありません。

You're always given an opportunity to let your talent know. There are decades of studies by neuroscientists that show the impact that music has on learning and brain functioning.

音楽が学習や脳の機能に与える影響を示す神経科学者の何十年にもわたる研究があることを、才能のある人に知ってもらう機会が常に与えられているのです。

Our students at Special Music School go on to the best colleges conservatories and universities in the United States and abroad.

One of the best parts is that it is all free and included in the partnership between Kaufman Music Center and the Department of Education.

They learn how to produce songs, how to record their own music.

曲のプロデュースやレコーディングの方法を学びます。

If I needed to hop in a studio and record something really quickly I would be able to know how to do it and how to go about getting the best clarity of sound.

スタジオに飛び込んで何かを録音する必要があれば、すぐにどうすればいいのか分かるし、どうすれば最高のクリアなサウンドが得られるのか分かります。

（先生）
It immediately started to have some real life benefits. There are a lot of performance opportunities at SMS.

すぐに実生活に役立つことが始められるし、SMSにはたくさんの上演の機会があります。

(生徒）
We have performance class every Wednesday, performing at Carnegie Hall or performing at Gotham Center.

毎週水曜日に実演授業があり、カーネギーホールで演奏したり、ゴッサムセンターで演奏したりします。

Being able to perform for your peers sets you up to be ready to perform for anyone else in the world. My freshman year, I was given the opportunity to sing on the view.

仲間に演奏して聞かせられるということは、世界中の誰に対しても演奏する準備ができるということです。1年生のとき、私はみんなの前で歌う機会を与えられました。

（保護者）
The musical training I've seen in my daughter's work is preparing her reaching toward a professional level. All these elements are so crucial to being a backbone to music.

娘の勉強の中で私が目にした音楽訓練は、プロフェッショナルなレベルに達するための準備です。これらの要素はすべて、音楽を支えるものとして非常に重要です。

Those fuels serve them well both in a music marketplace but also in college.

そうした熱意が大学だけでなく音楽市場においても役に立つのです。

The teachers are wonderful. They really really really love their jobs and invest every second they have to teach you all they know.

先生たちは素晴らしい人たちです。本当に本当に自分の仕事が大好きで、自分の知っていることをすべて教えようと片時も手を抜きません。

This balance between very fine academics and the music making culture in the school is a really good thing.

非常に優れた学業と音楽とのバランスはが学内の文化を作っていて、本当に良いことです。

Personally for me, the most rewarding part of my job is that I get to interact with students that are so much more than just students. They're real artists.

個人的には、この仕事で最もやりがいを感じるのは、学生以上の本物のアーティストである生徒たちと接することがあることです。

I will tell you to come if you just love music and if you want to learn more about music and become a better musician.

We are one of the only New York City public schools with a hundred percent graduation rate and a 100 percent college acceptance rate. Special Music School is a place that we prepare students for the future.
