It’s great news for businesses and travellers alike that travel has returned to pre-pandemic normality, and many of us are holidaying again. However, overtourism is having a dire impact on many popular destination, and some places have been forced to implement measures to control tourist numbers.

旅行が（コロナ）パンデミック以前の正常な状態に戻り、多くの人々が再び休暇で旅行に出かけられるようになったということは、企業にとっても旅行者にとっても素晴らしいニュースです。しかし、旅行客が大量に押し寄せていることは多くの人気旅行先に悲惨な影響を及ぼしており、観光客の数をコントロールするための対策を実施せざるを得ないところも出てきています。

Bali has placed numerous bans on tourist activity, Venice is introducing a tourist tax, the Acropolis will soon have caps on visitor numbers, and locals in Austria took to protesting about the excessive numbers of visitors in their town.

バリ島では観光客の行動に多くの禁止措置を取り、ベネチアでは観光税を導入し、アクロポリスでは間もなく観光客数に上限が設けられます。オーストリアの町では地元の人たちが多すぎる観光客の数に対して抗議をしました。

Apparently, Edinburgh castle is the most overcrowded tourist attraction in the UK, and Bath is the most overcrowded city.

But where in the world is being impacted the most? A study by MoneyTransfers.com has compiled a list of the most overcrowded destinations in the world, and ranking at number one is (drum roll, please) Phuket, in Thailand.

しかし、世界で最も影響を受けているのはどこなのでしょうか？MoneyTransfers.comは世界で最も混雑している観光地のリストを作成しており、一位は（ドラムロール、どうぞ！）タイのプーケットだそうです。

It’s no surprise Phuket is so popular – it’s the largest Thai island, and boasts around 90 kilometres of coastline. It’s home to Kata and Karon, two of the world’s best beaches, and is popular with scuba divers, but also has an abundance of vibrant markets and incredible seafood.

プーケットが人気があるのは驚くことではありません。そこはタイ最大の島で、約90キロの海岸線を誇ります。世界有数のビーチであるカタとカロンがあり、スキューバダイバーに人気があるだけでなく、活気ある市場や美味しい海産物もたくさんあります。

The stats on its tourism, however, are pretty wild. According to the study, the island hosts around 118 tourists for every local resident. But Phuket’s not the only overcrowded destination in Thailand. Ranking in second and third place on the list are Pattaya and Krabi, two more super popular Thai holiday destinations.

しかし、その観光に関する統計の取り方がかなりいい加減なのです。調査によると、この島では地元住民1人に対して約118人の観光客が訪れているそうですが、タイの過密観光地はプーケットだけではなく、2位と3位が、同国でさらに人気のあるパタヤとクラビになっています。

The top 10 list is also occupied by two Turkish destinations, Mugla and Hurghada, and two Greek destinations, Heraklion and Rhodes.

トップ10にはトルコのムグラとハルガダ、ギリシャのイラクリオンとロードス島が入っています。
