昨日は、アメリカ大統領選挙結果を受けて、ニューヨークタイムズのラーニングネットワークに若者が登校したコメントを読みましたが、今日も引き続き二人のコメントを読みます。

As a high school student and teenager, I spent all of yesterday watching the electoral college（選挙人） map and poll updates（最新の開票状況）. When Trump was leading the race, I initially credited（事実だと信じる） it to "The Red Mirage" and expected a blue shift, but when I woke up in the middle of the night, and saw Trump still in the lead, I was a little shocked and nervous. I have a lot of friends and family who are members of the LGBTQ+ community and as a woman, I completely understand why the private school in New York would offer an excused absence, because many people are afraid of what will happen to them and their rights under Trump's administration once more. As someone who lives in a very liberal state, the support for Harris and Walz was very widespread and it leaves you a little oblivious （忘れがち）to how people outside of Boston might feel. Relying on swing states was not enough this election, but the public should use this disappointment as an outlet to keep fighting and moving on.

Now that I am seventeen years of age, I care a lot more about the presidential election than I did four years ago. The 2024 election meant a lot for me and especially my family. I was hopeful that Harris would win, even if not by a landslide（圧倒的勝利）. Now I feel stupid for believing that she was ever going to win. I am disappointed with the election results for both the president and senator. I now have to live in fear that something very bad will happen within our country. I knew that the stakes were high with this election and I also knew that America would have a lot to lose if Trump won. I knew a lot of people who were afraid of Trump winning, but like me, they were filled with some amount of faith and optimism.

I wanted Harris to win because I wanted women to have proper reproductive rights and freedoms. The presidential election result may have devastating effects on Americans, specifically American minorities. Women across the country may not be able to get abortions, LGBTQ+ individuals may not be able to join or work in the military, and desperate immigrant families may be sent back to their violent countries. All of these things are most likely inevitable now that Donald Trump is in office. My family and community are saddened by the election results and I don't know how long this sadness will last. There will also be many setbacks now that Ted Cruz is the Texas Senator. He will most likely institute （制定する）many policies that are similar to Trumps. Modern democracy is now dead.
