New Yorkers have found a new hot topic to debate: The perfect seat on the subway.

ニューヨーカーたちが新たな議論の的を見つけました。それは地下鉄の完璧な座席です。

The surprisingly divisive（意見が分かれる） issue went viral（口コミで素早く拡がる） following a tweet by rider @gabefromthebx this week.

この意外なほど意見が分かれる問題は、今週乗客@gabefromthebxのツイートをきっかけに拡散した。

"All my New Yorkers, which is the best seat?" he asked, showing the orange L-shaped seats found on some lines which put three front-to-back side seats by the door and two side-to-side seats further into the train.

彼は、「ニューヨークの皆さん、最高の席はどこ？」と問いかけ、一部の路線で見られるオレンジ色のL字型座席（ドア付近に横向きの3席、車内奥に前向きの2席）の画像を添えました。

👩‍🏫"front-to-back side"というのは、「通路側と奥の席」、つまりL字の短い方で、"side-to-side"というのは、「進行方向縦方向に連なっている席」、つまりL字の長い方の席のことですね。

Gabefromthebx numbered the seats 1 to 5 and asked people to name（挙げる） their pick（選択したもの）. Hundreds did just that, with the tweet getting more than 1,700 retweets and 14,500 likes.

Gabefromthebxは座席を1～5番と番号付け、人々に好みの座席を挙げるよう求めました。数百人が同じように問いかけ、このツイートは1,700回以上リツイートされ、14,500件のいいね！を獲得しました。

CBS2's Valerie Castro tracked down the social media sensation （大騒ぎ）-- 20-year-old Gabriel Bautista -- who says he pondered（熟考する） the question when he found himself on an empty train with his pick of any seat.

"I decided to take a picture and ask Twitter, I didn't expect the results to come out the way they did," he said Thursday.

"1,4,3,5, 2!" posted Council Speaker Corey Johnson.

New York City Transit Authority Andy Byford also took to the standing option.

"I don't usually use seats when I ride because they are for customers," he said in a statement. "As for choosing the best, that's like asking a parent to pick a favorite child. Each one is special in its own way.

「乗客のための席なので、普段は利用しません」、「どれが最高かを選ぶのは、親がお気に入りの子供はどれかと聞くようなものです。それぞれがそれぞれの理由で特別なんです。」と彼は言います。

"I just love that people are kicking off（幕を開ける） the 2020s talking about subway seating," he said.

「2020年代の幕開けに地下鉄の座席論争が起きているのがたまらなく面白いです。」とも述べました。

"Although everyone has different point of views... everyone has a common understanding like about number 2, number 2 is not the seat to go," Bautista joked.

「意見は人それぞれだが…2番席は避けるべきだという共通認識は皆持っているんだね。」と発信者のバウティスタは冗談を交えて言いました。
