At Bronx church, Mayor Adams again vows to work through （取り組む）criminal indictment: ‘I’m not going to resign, I’m going to reign（君臨する）’

Mayor Eric Adams told Bronx churchgoers （教会の信者）on Sunday that he would not let the criminal indictment （刑事訴追）against him prevent him from continuing to serve the people of New York.

Speaking to members of the Emmanuel Presbyterian Reformed Church （長老改革派教会）, who greeted him with warm applause during the congregation’s （信徒団の）25th -anniversary celebration, on Sept. 29, Hizzoner （ニューヨーク市長）dispelled （払いのけた）the calls for him to step down （辞任する）as mayor in the wake of （～の結果として）the five-count indictment charging him with allegedly committing bribery（収賄）, fraud（詐欺） and public corruption （汚職）over a decade-long period.

エリック・アダムス市長は日曜日にブロンクスの教会の信者たちに対し、自身に対する刑事訴追を理由にニューヨーク市民への奉仕を止めるつもりはないと述べました。

9月29日に信徒団結成25周年記念式典の際、彼を温かい拍手で迎えたエマニュエル長老改革派教会の信者たちを前に、市長は10年以上にわたる収賄、詐欺、公職汚職の容疑で5件の起訴を受けたことに触れ、そのことで上がった辞任を求める声に反論しました。

The crowd applauded and cheered as Adams repeated that he was going to step up, then added, “I’m not going to resign, I’m going to reign.”

The mayor appeared in Manhattan Criminal Court on Sept. 27 for arraignment （罪状認否）on the indictment; he is due to return to court on Oct. 2 for a conference. Since news of the indictment broke, Adams has dismissed it as built on lies and political retribution（報復）; he rebuffed　（はねつける） dozens of calls for his resignation, and vowed to carry on as the city’s chief executive while fighting to clear his name.

アダムス市長が「私は前進します」と繰り返すと、群衆は拍手と歓声で応えました。そして市長はさらに、「私は辞任するつもりはありません。市長であり続けるつもりです」と付け加えました。

市長は9月27日、マンハッタン刑事裁判所に出頭し、起訴状に対する罪状認否を行いました。10月2日には、協議のために再び裁判所に出頭する予定です。起訴のニュースが報道されて以来、アダムス市長は、この起訴は嘘と政治的な報復によるものだと一蹴しています。市長は、辞任を求める数十件の要求を拒否し、汚名をすすぐために戦いながら、市の最高責任者としての職務を継続していくと宣言しました。
