ボデガキャット(bodega cat)については、Wikipediaにも次のように書かれています。

A bodega cat (also referred to as a deli cat, store cat, shop cat, the manager or the boss) is a type of working cat that inhabits a bodega, which in New York City English refers to a convenience store or deli. Like other working cats, a bodega cat is typically a domestic shorthair kept as a form of biological pest control to manage or prevent rodent infestations.

ボデガキャット（デリキャット、ストアキャット、ショップキャット、マネージャー、ボスとも呼ばれる）は、ニューヨーク市の英語でコンビニエンスストアやデリを指す「ボデガ」にいて仕事をする貓のことです。他の働く猫と同じように、ボデガキャットは、ネズミがはびこることを管理または防止するための生物学的害虫駆除手段として飼われている通常ペット用の短毛種です。

食料品を扱う店では、動物は飼ってはいけない、という条例があるのですが、市は今まで見て見ぬふりをしてきました。ところが、きちんと合法化しようという動きが出てきました！

If there’s one thing we love about a snack run（出かけること）, it’s the opportunity to mingle （集う）with our local bodega cat. But believe it or not, our feline（猫科の） friends — and four-legged workers — aren’t actually legal.

スナックを買いに行くことのひとつの楽しみは、地元のボデガキャットに会えることです。信じられないかもしれませんが、私たちの友達である猫ちゃんたち、そして四本足の従業員たちは実は合法ではありません。

Due to health codes, cats are not permitted to be in bodegas, but it looks like that’s about to change. City Councilmember Keith Powers plans to introduce a bill later this June to change this rule right around — with the help of Dan Rimada, founder of @bodegacatsofnewyork (which is in the midst of a fundraiser to support our feline workers.)

Through this bill, the city’s health codes would be edited to accommodate（場所を提供する） for bodega cats and shop owners would have to register their four-legged helpers. Additionally, the animals will be protected with vaccines, care, and neutering（去勢・避妊手術をする）.

この法案により、市の衛生条例が改正され、ボデガキャットの飼育が認められるようになります。店のオーナーは、四足歩行の従業員として猫たちを登録する必要があります。さらに、これらの動物はワクチン接種、ケア、避妊・去勢手術による保護が受けられます。

Powers revealed his plans on Instagram and stated, “I’m excited to announce new legislation that will legalize bodega cats by updating the city’s health code to officially allow them. The bill will also create a free vaccination program for cats so they can get the protection they deserve.”

And he ended with a very strong, convincing note: “Because a bodega without a bodega cat? You gotta be kitten me.”
