CUF（Center of Urban Future---都市未来センター）は、独立した超党派の政策機関です。

重要でありながら見過ごされがちな課題を政策立案者に気づかせ、実践的な解決策を推進しています。

CUFのホームページの紹介ページ(about)に次のように書いてあります。（日本のどこかの政党の誰か言っていたような書き方です。「ニューヨーク市」を「日本」に入れ替えて、数字を正せば、英語での演説の参考になるかも・・・( ´艸｀)）

For 25 years, CUF has consistently shaped the policy debate around economic opportunity in New York by publishing reports that are widely covered in the media, highly readable（読みやすい） and anchored in（強く結びついている） rigorous（厳密な） research rather than preconceived（あらかじめ考えた） notions about outcome（見解）.

25年にわたり、CUF(都市未来センター）は、メディアで広く取り上げられ、読みやすく、結果として予め決めていた見解ではなく厳密な研究に基づいた報告書を発行することで、ニューヨークにおける経済的機会をめぐる政策議論を一貫して形成してきました。

CUF’s efforts to create a more prosperous（繁栄している）, equitable and inclusive New York span（～に及ぶ） many topics and policy areas, and are unified by three common aims:

さて、今日はこの都市センターのやっていることが分かる動画を見てみましょう。

Center for an Urban Future

We really don't think there's anything quite like the center for the Urban Future out there today.

今日、都市未来センターのようなものはどこにもないと思っています。

We're talking to business leaders, we're talking to advocates for the poor, people in every aspect of life in New York City.

私たちはビジネスリーダーと対話し、貧困層の支援者と対話し、ニューヨーク市の生活のあらゆる側面の人々と対話しています。

So on one breath, the Center we’ll talk about social justice issues and then in the next report it'll be about the innovation economy.

つまり、一言で言うと社会正義の問題に言及し、次の報告書ではイノベーション経済について取り上げるというわけです。

And we often find out about what's not working right.

そして何がうまくいっていないのかを見つけることがよくあるのです。

It's actually a little embarrassing  how long the list of things are we have appropriated（使用する）or borrowed from the  Center for the Urban Futures ideas or position paper. 

都市未来センターの考えや方針説明書を引用したり借りてきたりするとそれがとても長いので、実際ちょっと恥ずかしく思うことがあるんですよ。

The center is different because it thinks not just about Manhattan and the central 

business districts it really thinks first and foremost（一番先に） about five borough city.

このセンターが他と違うところは、マンハッタンや中心のビジネス地区だけでなく、何よりもまず五つの区からなる都市全体を第一に考えている点なんですよ。

The Center for an Urban Future is virtually the only voice really focused on the needs and concerns of small business.

都市未来センターは、中小企業が感じているニーズや懸念に真に焦点を当てた事実上唯一の声なのです。

As a practitioner（実践している人） of Community Development, I feel that their work is directly relevant  and they're looking at it through a lens that I can appreciate（高く評価する）. 

地域開発を実践している者として、彼らの取り組みは直接関係していることであり、私が高く評価する視点で捉えていると感じています。

Immigrants are 37 and a half% upwards of（～以上の）40% of our City's population and what the center for an Urban Future has been able to do is actually shine a light on how they truly do make up some of the vibrancy（活気） of what our city is made up and as a result of that policies that are smart to support them.

移民は当市の人口の37.5％から40％以上を占めています。都市未来センターがこれまで成し遂げてきたことは、移民が実際に当市の活気の一端を担っている実態と、その結果として彼らを支援するための賢明な政策を明らかにしたことです。

I would say that the reports issued by the center never get put on the shelf.

同センターが発行する報告書は決して棚上げされることはないと思います。

They're widely read, they're very much respected scholars and elected officials.

それらは広く読まれ、学者や選挙で選ばれた公職者のみなさんから非常に高く評価されています。

But there's so much to be done. 

しかし問題は山積みです。

New York still faces a number of critical challenges and what's where the center really steps in.

ニューヨークは依然として数多くの重大な課題に直面しており、まさにそこが同センターが実際関わっていくところなのです。
