Eric Adams, Kathryn Garcia Neck-And-Neck After Unofficial Preliminary Results In NYC Mayor's Race

We begin with breaking news a stunning development in the New York City mayor's race.

Unofficial preliminary results from ranked choice voting make it a neck and neck race tonight. CBS 2 political reporter Marcia Kramer in the newsroom with the latest twists and turns.

ランキング方式の投票結果の中間結果が今夜非公式に公表され、接戦になっていることが分かりました。CBS２の政治部、マルシア・クラマーがニュースルームから最新の混戦もようを伝えてもらいます。

It's a horse race. Just a minutes ago, the board of elections released the first round of ranked choice voting and Eric Adams and Catherine Garcia are duking it out.
Adams has a razor thin lead, but with 130,000 absentee ballots still out there, we're waiting for final results not only in the mayor's race but also other contests as well.

ホースレースです。たった１分前、選挙管理委員会はランキングチョイスの一回戦の結果を公表しました。エリック・アダムスとキャサリン・ガルシアが激しく争っています。
アダムスは剃刀の刃一枚リードしていますが、これから13万の不在者票が開くので、市長選ばかりでなく他の（市議会議員や会計監査役）の予備選結果も待っているところです。

It won't be over for two weeks, but the first round of ranked choice voting has Eric Adams with 51.1 percent of the vote Catherine Garcia with 48.9 percent. They are separated by 15,908 votes, but it's not over. And with more than 130,000 absentee ballots left to be counted. It's still possible for Maya Wiley to pull off a win.

She said in a statement ,"I said, on election night, we must allow the democratic process to continue and count every vote so that New Yorkers have faith in our democracy and government.

"We knew it would take a while for the full count. The important thing to remember here is unlike the past with a september primary. When you have a June primary, the fact that this is taking a little while to sort out is not going to cause any major dislocation. We'll know soon.

Board of election workers began the arduous process today of opening and tabulating more 130,000 absentee ballots, which along with affidavit ballots, will be added to the 800,000 votes cast on election day.

And during early voting, the sheer numbers could affect the outcome of the mayor's race as well as a number of other contests for borough president and city council. For example only 311 votes separate former congressman, Vito Fossella, and councilman, Steve Matteo, in the race for the republican nomination for Statain Island borough president.

So far 2,160 Staten Island republicans have returned absentee ballots and coupled with rank choice voting. It's anybody's race . And in the contest for the democratic nomination for Queens borough president, Donovan Richards, who won a special election a few months ago, is fighting to keep the job. Only 2,076 votes separate him from former councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley. So far just over 35 thousand Queens democrats have returned absentee ballots.

"It's better to know something, but that doesn't end the discussion. You really could see something turned just based on those number two and three votes.

The final result will depend on where the absentee ballots come from. In the first round of voting, Adams did well in the outer boroughs , Garcia did well in parts of Manhattan . Nearly 40,000 of the absentee ballots come from Manhattan, the rest from the outer boroughs , but that didn't stop a Garcia source from pointing out that the results suggest that her end of the race alliance with Andrew Yang was a smart strategy.

最終結果は不在者票がどの区から来たのかにかかっています。第一ラウンドでは、マンハッタン以外の区でアダムスが優勢で、ガルシアがマンハッタンで優勢でした。不在者票のほぼ４万票はマンハッタンから来て、残りはマンハッタン以外の区から来ますが、だからといってガルシアの消息筋は結果的にアンドリュー・ヤンとの選挙協力は賢い戦術だったということを撤回しませんでした。
