一人の力ではどうにもできないことでも、力を合わせれば大きな影響力を持ち、政府の政策やコニュニティーのありかたを変えていくことができます。しかし、批判はするものの、なかなかそれを行動に移すことが難しい。。。そんな中で、今まで見てきたTA（代替交通機関を進める団体）は様々な成果をあげ、今後もさらに活動を続けていきます。今日はそんなTAが可能であると考えるニューヨークの未来像を見たいと思います。

未来をみすえた戦いをすること

The coming year will demand that TA and our supporters be relentless in pushing a bold transportation agenda that meets the demands of the moment, and sets the stage for the future we want to see. With your partnership, TA will:

来るべき年に、TAは支援してくださる人達と、臆することなく現状の要求に見合い、自分たちが望む未来像のために、大きな交通の課題に立ち向かっていきます。TAは、あなた方と連携し、次のことを行っていきます。（太字は原文のままです。）

● Seize this moment to boldly reimagine our transportation system, from protected bike lanes and busways to Open Streets and public transit.

自転車、バス専用レーンからオープンストリート、公共交通機関に至るまで、交通システムの思い切って考え直すために、現状を把握します。

● Develop a visionary transportation agenda for the 2021 City election that is advanced by the City’s incoming leadership, including a new Mayor and the majority of City Council members.

2021年の選挙に向かって、新市長と過半数の市議会議員を含む、市のリーダーたちによって進められる交通機関に関わる課題をまとめます。

● Fight hard not to lose any ground. Deep budget cuts and changing political priorities imperil many of the victories TA and our partners have fought and won, so we must defend the wins we have gained.

立脚点を失わないように一生懸命戦います。大幅な予算削減と政策の優先順位が変わると、TA と支持して下さる方々が勝ち取ってきた勝利を失うことになります。ですから我々は勝ち取った勝利を守らなければならないのです。

● Lead by listening and prioritize neighborhoods and communities that have been left out of the safe-streets conversation. We must empower every community with the tools and resources they need to take space back from the automobile.

意見を聞いて、安全に路上で会話できなくなった住民やコミュニティーの声を優先します。あらゆるコニュニティーを励まし、彼らが必要とする手段やリソースを提供し、車によって失われた場所を取り戻さなくてはなりません。

My name is Angela, and I live in Jakson Heights.  I live on 34th Avenue as you can note I stand in the middle of the street. It's quiet, quiet enough that you can hear the birds sing. You can hear the leaves rustle on the pavement. I have been working from home since March and this open street has been so important for my physical and mental health. Being able to step away from my desk come out here to take a walk to see neighbors and friends in a socially distant way. We  are fighting now not only to make it permanent but to take it further,  to turn it into a linear park street. Safety to me means not having to carefully plan my route, not having to be hyper vigilant at every moment. 

アンジェラです。ジャクソンハイツに住んでいます。道路の真ん中に立っていることでお分かりのように、34番街沿いに住んでいます。静かなところです。鳥の声が聞こえるくらいです。舗道では木の葉が擦れ合う音も聞こえます。３月から職場へは歩いて通っています。このオープンストリートは心身ともに私の健康にとって、とても大切なものです。仕事を離れて、ここに散歩に来れば、距離を取って近所の人や友人に会うことができます。私たちが今闘っているのは、現状を変えないこととばかりではなく、さらに進んでここを公園道路にすることです。私にとって安全というのは、自分の通勤路を注意して決めることでも、たえず緊張しながら注意することでもありません。

If people could understand one thing about streets in New York and every city in the world 
is that it's a network. To me, street safety just means that everyone can get around where they need to go without worrying about any dangerous positions they might be putting themselves into. The most impressive TA accomplishment is outdoor dining. Outdoor dining has just been huge. Every city all over the world is doing it right now and it's amazing that they were able to push through and get this to be a permanent fixture for New York going into the future.  I support TA because I really think that they are doing an amazing job  at improving the lives of New Yorkers everywhere to make sure that New Yorkers get the safe infrastructure that they deserve to walk and bike and take transit wherever they need to 

ニューヨークと世界中の街が、道路のことについてひとつのことを理解できれば、それはネットワークです。わたしにとって安全な道路というのは、誰もが危険な状態に陥る心配をすることなく行きたいところへ行くことができるということです。TAが達成した最もすごいことは、店の外での飲食です。店の外で飲食ができるようになったことはすごく大きなことです。世界中のどの町も現在それを行っています。TAは店の外での飲食を推し進めて、それを恒久的な飲食場所にできたのです。今後のニューヨークにとって驚くべきことです。私はTAを支援しています。それは、彼の素晴らしい活動によって、ニューヨーク市民の生活の改善が至る所でなされ、必要なところどこへでも歩き、自転車に乗り、公共交通機関を利用できるよう安全が確実なものになるからです。

Hi, I'm Daelin. I grew up in Staten Island and I live in Brooklyn now. I'm happy to be a part of the TA campaign to have a bicycle and pedestrian lane on the Verrazano Bridge. I'm also really happy to be a part  of the bridges for people campaign which is aiming to increase the space for pedestrians and cyclists on all the East River bridges.  Treat safety to me means that the most vulnerable users of the road are the most protected. Sidewalks should be as wide as possible and bike lanes should be protected with hard barriers. I love New York City because the transportation  options are so numerous. TA is all about improving the existing infrastructure for bikes, pedestrians and mass transit. 

こんにちは、ダエリンです。私はスタテンアイランドで育ち、今はブルックリンに住んでいます。ヴェラザノブリッジ（注：スタテン島と、ニューヨーク市ブルックリンを結ぶつり橋）に自転車レーンと歩行者レーンを造るというTAの運動に賛同しています。また、イーストリバーブリッジすべてに歩行者と自転車専用のスペースを増やそうという運動にも賛成です。私にとって安全だということは、道路で最も弱い立場の人たちが最も守られているということです。歩道はできるだけ広くとり、自転車レーンには頑丈なバリアを取り付けなければなりません。ニューヨークシティには多くの交通手段があるので、とてもいいと思います。自転車や歩行者、公共交通の現状を改善しようとしてくれているのがTAなのです。

みなさんの地域で、危ないなと思う道路はありませんか？安全は保たれていますか？安心して歩いたり自転車に乗ったりできていますか？TAの存在を知って、自分の地域を見直す機会ができました。
