大都会のイメージはコンクリートジャングルかもしれませんが、ニューヨークは違います。公園がたくさんあり、大きな植物園、マディソン・スクェア・パークのような樹木園もあります。その特徴は、自然が管理されているということです。人間の手によって保護されているのです。。

ニューヨーク市には、多くの自然を愛するボランティアが積極的に街の美化に協力しています。また様々なイベントを催し、市民と自然を結び付ける重要な役割を果たしています。

今日は、今が盛りのニューヨークのチューリップを見ましょう。

After months of swaddling ourselves in thick woolen layers, trudging around in heavy boots, and enduring gray skies, Mother Nature rewards us with the beautiful spectacle of spring. A garden oasis hidden away on the Upper West Side promises an ideal spot to soak in all that spring has to offer.

分厚いウールの服を重ね着して、重いブーツで歩き回り、灰色の空に耐えてきた数ヶ月が過ぎました。そのご褒美として、母なる自然は私たちに春の美しい光景を与えてくれます。アッパー・ウエスト・サイドにひっそりと佇む庭園のオアシスは、春の贈り物を満喫するのに理想的な場所であることを約束します。

Thousands of tulips in pink, yellow, red, purple, and orange fill the West Side Community Garden, and this Tulip Festival is free to visit daily from dawn til dusk through early May. While tulips steal the show, other spring scenes get the spotlight, too. Pastel pink cherry blossom petals float down from the branches above, birds flit from tree to tree, and the fragrance of hyacinths perfumes the air.

何千本ものピンク、黄色、赤、紫、オレンジのチューリップがウェストサイド・コミュニティ・ガーデンを埋め尽くしています。このチューリップ・フェスティバルは5月上旬まで毎日夜明けから夕暮れまで無料で楽しめます。チューリップが主役ですが、他の春の風景もスポットライトを浴びています。パステルピンクの桜の花びらが枝から舞い降り、鳥が木から木へと飛び回り、ヒヤシンスの香りが漂います。

You can find the tucked-away garden at 123 West 89th Street between Amsterdam Avenue and Columbus Avenue. Though it's free to visit, you can make a donation to keep the volunteer-run garden beautiful year after year. Garden volunteers will be on site on April 13-14 and 20-21 from 10am-6pm so you can learn more about the plantings and ask questions.

アムステルダム・アベニューとコロンバス・アベニューの間、西89丁目123番地にひっそりと佇む庭園があります。見学は無料ですが、寄付を受け付けています。この庭園を毎年美しく保つためにボランティアで運営されているからです。4月13日、14日、20日、21日の午前10時から午後6時まで、庭園のボランティアが会場にいますので、植栽について詳しく学んだり、質問したりすることができます。

A tradition for 46 years, the Tulip Festival features many different tulip varieties, such as parrots, darwins, triumphs, plus spring flowers like azaleas, daffodils, and bleeding hearts.

46年の伝統を誇るチューリップ・フェスティバルでは、パロット、ダーウィン、トライアンフなどさまざまな品種のチューリップに加え、ツツジ、スイセン、ブリーディング・ハートなど春の花々が咲き誇ります。

West Side Community Garden was founded in 1976 on a trash-strewn vacant lot on Columbus Avenue that had been slated for an urban renewal project. West Side Community Garden is committed to providing a beautiful, peaceful, green space in which everybody can relax. The only privately owned example of its kind in New York City, the garden is fully funded by grants and donations and run entirely by volunteers.

ウェストサイド・コミュニティ・ガーデンは1976年、都市再開発プロジェクトが予定されていたコロンバス通りのゴミだらけの空き地に設立されました。ウェストサイド・コミュニティ・ガーデンは、誰もがくつろげる美しく平穏な緑の空間を提供することに力を注いでいます。こうした公園の中でニューヨーク市で唯一の個人所有の例であるこの庭園は、助成金と寄付金で全額賄われ、すべてボランティアによって運営されています。
