“I started getting a little amenity as we looked at these really nice buildings,” Mr. Giroux-Doehring said. “They might have a chef that comes in and gives cooking classes. I wanted an apartment I could live in. These amenities won’t really help me if the place is too small.”

The East Williamsburg loft had a sheet-metal shop next door and a playground across the street, so they worried about noise. “Something the listing didn’t capture was the neighborhood,” Ms. Sazo said. “If you visit on a quiet day, you don’t realize all the intangibles of an apartment, so we were lucky enough to realize it before it was too late.”

They chose the Williamsburg one-bedroom, which didn’t feel cookie-cutter in the way many others did, and arrived in the fall.

彼らの選んだのは、ウィリアムズバーグワンベッドルームですが、他の物件にあるような似たり寄ったりといった感じがなく、秋に入居できました。

Both are on the phone much of the day, so one uses the living room and the other the bedroom, or the balcony in good weather. “It’s a matter of keeping track of each other,” Ms. Sazo said.

お二人が電話で、一日の様子を話してくれ、一人がリビングルームを使い、もう一人がベッドルームを仕事に使っているようでした。天気のいい日はバルコニーで仕事もできるようです。「大切なのは、お互いの流れを把握していることね。」とサゾーさんは言います。

They wouldn’t mind more direct sunlight, which arrives for a few hours in the early afternoon. They face a parking lot and another small building with bright lights on all night. So they draw the curtains before bed.

直射日光は午後の早い時間に数時間あるようですが、気にならないようです。駐車場がすぐ隣で、ほかに夜じゅうライトがついているビルがあるので、寝る前にカーテンを引くのだそうです。

“That is like the noise complaints — something we wouldn’t have realized until we were here at night,” Ms. Sazo said.

So far, though, the apartment has surpassed their expectations, with enough space for two desks and a dining table.

しかし、今のところ、このアパートには２つのデスクとダイニングテーブルがおけるくらい充分な広さがあり、期待通りです。

Mr. Giroux-Doehring even set up a projector and pointed it at a blank wall. And they have added artwork to the other walls, he said, based on “what’s going to look good on a Zoom background.”

さらに、ジルードーリングさんは、プロジェクターを設置して、、何もない壁に向けています。もう一方の壁には絵を飾っています。「ズームを使う背景に使う」ためだと言います。

ニューヨークの賃貸マンションを購入するときには、必ず現地で確認すること。そして、色々な時間に行ってみること。必要なものと同時に、不必要なものが入っていないか確認すること、ですね。家賃が下がって、36万。。。子供がいない若夫婦にとっては、これでギリギリの生活かもしれません。頑張って、ニック、サゾー！
