A look back at the seismic musical revolution of 1980s New York.

1980年代のニューヨークの劇的な音楽革命を振り返る

During the early 1980s, New York experienced a community-driven musical renaissance. The result was an era of creativity and genre-defying performance that stands as one of the most influential in musical and cultural history. A wide range of music, from punk to pop to hip-hop to salsa to jazz, mixed in a dynamic arts scene that stretched across clubs and bars, theaters, parks, and art spaces. Together, they provided fertile ground for a musical revolution—one that continues to influence pop culture to this day. Coinciding with the 40th anniversary of MTV, New York, New Music: 1980–1986 will highlight diverse musical artists—from Run DMC to the Talking Heads, from Madonna to John Zorn—as a lens to explore the broader music and cultural scene, including the innovative media outlets, venues, record labels, fashion and visual arts centered in New York City in these years.

1980年代に、ニューヨークではコミュニティ主導のミュージカルルネッサンスが起こりました。その結果、音楽と文化の歴史の中で最も大きな影響力の一つである創造性とジャンルにとらわれないパフォーマンスの時代になりました。パンクから、ポップ、ヒップ・ホップ、サルサ、ジャズまで広範な音楽がダイナミックなアートシーンの中で混じり合い、クラブ、バー、劇場、公園、アートスペースへと広がりました。それらが一体となって豊かな下地となり、今日のポップカルチャーに影響をあたえつづけているのです。MTV（ニューヨークを本拠地とするケーブルテレビ）の40周年と時を同じくして、（今回の特別展示である）「ニューヨーク、ニューミュージック：1980-1986」は、ラン DCMからトーキングヘッズまで、マドンナからジョン・ゾーンまで、さまざまな音楽アーティストに光をあて、近年ニューヨークに中心を置いている革新的な情報発信源、会場、レコードレーベル、ファッション、ビジュアルアートなど、広範な音楽と文化を探るレンズの役割を果たすでしょう。

"Run DMC"の"Walk This Way"には、確かにラップとロックの融合生を感じさせます。（アディダスのスニーカー（スーパースター）を履いていることにも注目。

The evening will also feature a sneak peek of the Museum’s new blockbuster exhibition, New York, New Music: 1980-1986.

To keep everyone safe, this year's gala is reimagined as an intimate, outdoor dinner for up to 150 gala and exhibition donors of $25,000+. The following week, we will present a virtual experience featuring the evening’s award presentation, musical performances, and an exclusive virtual tour of New York, New Music.

皆さんの安全を守るため、今年の祭典は屋外で、ガラと展示会に２万５千ドル以上の寄付をお寄せいただいた150人までの懇親会とさせていただきます。来週、受賞者の発表、コンサートをバーチャルで行います。また、「ニューヨーク、ニューミュージック」の独占バーチャルツアーを行います。
（注：参加できるのは、一人2,500ドルのチケットを10枚まとめて購入した人かそれ以上、ということです。寄付の詳細のページがこちらにあります。）

Admittance will require proof of vaccine and/or negative COVID test.

参加者はワクチン接種修了証の提示、あるいは新型コロナウィルス感染検査で陰性であることの証明が必要です。

Note: This is an outdoor event, and in the case of rain, the event will be moved to June 10th.
