CDCのファウチ所長Fauci の新マスクガイドラインには、全米が驚きました。日本でも話題になっていますね。そして色々な反応が現れています。喜ぶ人、当惑する人、懐疑的な人・・・と様々なとらえ方です。

まずは、ABCNEWSのインタビューに応えるアンソニー・ファウチ(Anthony Fauci)氏の生の見解を聞きましょう。

Fauci Weighs In On CDC’s New Mask Guidance For Fully Vaccinated

For greater clarity and all this I spoke just a short time ago with Dr. Antony Fauci.

さらにはっきりさせて色々伺うために、ちょっと前にアンソニー・ファウチ博士と話したのですが・・・。

Well, Dr Fauci , a lot of Americans put a lot of trust and faith in you, so my first question is really of a personal nature.

ファウチ博士、多くのアメリカ人から多大な信頼と信用を受けていらっしゃいますね。そこで私の最初の質問は実に個人的なことになります。

Do you feel good about this mass decision today? Would you have preferred that you wait a bit longer?

今日多くの人たちに呼び掛ける決定をされたわけですが、喜んでいらっしゃいますか？（それとも）もうちょっと待った方が良かったかなと思っていらっしゃいますか？

No, actually Lester, I feel very good about it and I'm very much in favor of it. Ppeople
who 've been vaccinated, now they really do need to get the feel that we're approaching some form of normality. And one of the things that felt quite abnormal and different, the way they'd like to feel, is that outdoors, you can understand the breeze of blowing and there's very little chance of anything happening, but indoors, it's still quite safe if you're vaccinated.　The data that's accumulated now about the real world effectiveness of a vaccine really makes the risk of getting infected extraordinarily low, and if you do get infected the risk of getting any serious disease is even lower.

迷いはないですよ。本当です、レスターさん。私はとても喜んでいますし、（マスクを外すことは）大いに結構なことです。ワクチンを受けた人たちは、普通の生活に近づいているんだという感覚をもつことが本当に必要なのです。人が異常だ、違うと感じていたけれど、（普通に）感じたいことがありますね。屋外で気持ちの良い風が吹いていて、何も（危険なことは）起こらない、それから屋内ではすごく安全に過ごせるということです。ワクチン接種をして入ればですが。現実にワクチンの有効性について蓄積されてきたデータを見ると、実際感染するリスクが非常に低いと分かります。そして感染しても重症化するリスクはずっと低いということが分かります。

It was only a few weeks ago we were being shown color coded charts with what you can do
if you're vaccinated or unvaccinated. And the bottom line was, for the vaccinated, you still shouldn't go around big crowds indoors. What has changed in those ensuing weeks?

２，３週間前のことですが、ワクチン接種を受けた時、もしくは接種を受けない時、私たちができることを色つきの表で見せてもらいました。結果的にワクチンを受けた人は、まだ屋内の大人数の集まりはすべきではないということでしたが、こその後、週間で何が変わったのですか？

Well, that's a real good question and that's what the CDC has deliberated on that really triggered the decision. We've had now a substantial diminution in the number of daily cases on a seven day average by about one-third over the last couple of weeks. There have been a number of papers that have come out that have shown the extraordinary real-world efficacy of the vaccine at every level, at every age under every circumstance. So literally over the past couple of weeks, our suspicion, if you want to call it that Lester, that this is a vaccine that really, really works very well. And we are seeing the result of a substantial diminution of cases that triggered the decision by the CDC.

良い質問ですね。まさに、それがCDCが検討してきたものであり、決断のきっかけに
なったものです。７日間の感染件数が急激に減少したのです。この数週間に渡って3分の１になりました。どのレベルでもどの年齢、どんな状況下でも実際相当高い有効性を示した結果が出た多くの報告がありました。実際数週間の間、レスター君は、本当にこのワクチンはすごく効くものなのか？という疑念があると言いたいのだろうが、かなりの感染件数の減少が見られているのですよ。だからCDCの決断となったのです。

As a fully vaccinated person, should we have any worries about walking by someone on the street who may be unvaccinated?

ワクチン接種を完了した人は街でワクチン接種をしていないかもしれない人とすれちがっても何の心配もないということですか？

Not at all. I would have no concern walking down the street, past the person who's not been vaccinated, and even a person who's been infected, because the protection is really quite substantial.　

全く心配ありません。街を歩いていてワクチン接種をしていない人とすれ違っても全く心配はないでしょう。その人が感染していてもです。しっかりと保護されているからです。

There are parents right now who are scratching their heads wondering about their children under the age of 12 who as we know are not authorized to receive a vaccination right now, so what happens? Mom and dad fully vaccinated can take off their masks and the child will have to wear one inside and out?

今はまだ12歳以下の子供たちは当局によるワクチンは認められていませんから、お父さんお母さんたちは、どうしたらいいだろう？と思っていますよ。どうなりますか？お父さんやお母さんがワクチン接種を完了していてマスクを外していても、子供は屋内外でマスクを付けなければならないということですか？

No, not outside, you know if you look at children outside particularly when they're with the family walking down the street, playing a game or what have you, don't have to wear a mask. If they're in a situation where they're in a crowd, obviously you want them to wear
a mask, but again you're talking about children 12 years old and less because the 12 to 15, Lester as you know, now can get the Pfizer vaccine and we're encouraging them that they do.

いいえ、外では大丈夫です。外で、特に街でご家族と一緒に歩いているとかゲームをしているとか、させるとか、そういうときにマスクをする必要はありません。群衆の中にいるようなときにはマスクを付けさせたいですね。12歳以下のお子さんのことを言っているのでしょうからもう一度言いますが、12歳から15歳のお子さんは、あなたも知っての通り、ファイザーのワクチンが打てます。受けていただきたいと思います。

I asked Dr. Fauci if there was any outside pressure political or otherwise behind the new guidelines and he said there was none.

新しいガイドラインの裏に、外から政治的あるいはその他の圧力があったのか、ファウチ博士に聞いたのですが、全くないということでした。

政治的な圧力がありましたか？と聞かれて、（あっても）「はい、ありました。」なんて言わないですよね。。。( ´艸｀)

ここに来て、ワクチン接種に対するニューヨークの姿勢も急激に変わってきています。今ではあらゆるところにポップアップ接種会場が現れ、４月には予約なしで受けられ、５月初旬には、12～15歳の子供も受けられ、最近は観光客にも無料で接種するようになりました。日本でも接種の遅れにいらだつ人のための「ワクチン接種ツアー」があるようです。

ニューヨークは、最近接種率が伸び悩んでいるという事実もあります。アンカーのレスターが聞いたように、政治的な圧力があったのではと考えるのも当たり前でしょう。勇み足にならないように落ち着いて進めていってもらいたいです。そして今後の感染データの推移にも注目していきたいと思います。
