ニューヨークシティの感染者数は６月13日で直近７日間の平均が207件でした。一時は"New York is Dead"（ニューヨークは死んだ）と言われ、ニューヨークを脱出する人たちもいました。

希望を捨てないでニューヨークの再開まで頑張った人たちは、再開したニューヨークをお祝いしつつ、亡くなった人たちや苦しい思いをした人たちのことをずっと忘れないでしょう。

アメリカ全体でみると、まだまだニューヨークのような状態ではありません。

U.S. COVID-19 death toll surpasses 600,000: ‘It’s a very sobering number’

合衆国の新型コロナウィルスによる死者数が、60万人をこえた。「それは、エッというようなすごい数字だ」

More than 600,000 people have now died from COVID-19 in the U.S., a bleak benchmark reached amid a backdrop of mass vaccinations driving case rates down considerably.

The tragic tally was reported by Johns Hopkins University on Tuesday, the same day hard-hit states such as New York and California dropped most of their remaining pandemic restrictions.

To put the new number in perspective, the national COVID-19 death toll is now greater than the number of people living in the entire state of Wyoming and roughly the same as the population of Baltimore.

“It’s a very sobering number,” Dr. Debra Simons, dean of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences at Manhattanville College, told the Daily News. “We’re not out of the woods yet. We haven’t reached herd immunity yet. This pathogen will still attach itself to whoever is not being responsible right now.”

So far, 52.6% of Americans have had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccines while 43.9% are fully vaccinated, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
