日本では、旧正月(Lunar New Year)を祝うということはあまり行われていません。
しかし、他民族のコミュニティーが多いニューヨークでは、チャイナタウンを中心に、旧正月を祝う行事が多く行われています。

どのようなものなのか、6sqftのサイトからご紹介します。

Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade & Festival
チャイナタウンの旧正月パレードとお祭り

The 24th annual Lunar New Year Parade returns to Chinatown this year. On Sunday, February 20, the parade starts at 1 p.m. on Mott and Canal Streets and moves to Chattam Square to East Broadway, towards the Manhattan Bridge, and ending near Sara D. Roosevelt Park. Hosted by Better Chinatown USA, the free event also includes vendors and live performances celebrating the Year of the Tiger.

今年で24回目を迎える旧正月パレードがチャイナタウンに戻ってきました。2月20日（日）午後1時にモットストリートと、キャナルストリートの交差点をスタートし、チャッタムスクェア、イーストブロードウェイを経て、マンハッタンブリッジに向かい、サラ・D・ルーズベルト・パーク付近で終了します。「ベターチャイナタウン・USA」が主催するこの無料イベントでは、出店があり、ライブパフォーマンスが行われ、寅年を祝います。

The nonprofit Asia Society is ushering in the Year of the Tiger will a day chock full of virtual family fun. On January 29, enjoy musical performances from Elena Moon Park, Vietnamese songs from Vân-Ánh Võ, a lion dance and kung fu demonstration from Bo Law Kung Fu, and a puppet show featuring traditional Chinese “budaixi” glove puppets. The free event starts at 1 p.m. and will be live-streamed on YouTube and Facebook.

非営利団体アジア・ソサエティは、寅年を迎えるにあたり、家族で楽しめるバーチャルイベントを開催します。1月29日には、エレナ・ムーン・パークによる音楽パフォーマンス、Vân-Ánh Võによるベトナムの歌、ボー・ロウ・カンフーによる獅子舞とカンフーのデモンストレーション、中国の伝統的な「ブダイシ」手袋人形の人形劇を楽しむことができます。この無料イベントは午後1時に始まり、ユーチューブとフェイスブックでライブストリーミングされます。

During the first week of February, Brookfield Place is hosting a multi-day celebration of the Lunar New Year. On display on the plaza will be ice sculptures by local art collective Okamoto Studio. Take in a live ice carving demonstration and enjoy the sculptures from February 3 through February 5. That Saturday, there will be free DIY craft kits to make Lunar New Year lanterns, provided by the New York Chinese Cultural Center.

2月の第1週、ブルックフィールド・プレイスでは数日間にわたって旧正月を祝うイベントが開催されます。広場に展示されるのは、地元のアート集団、オカモト・スタジオによる氷の彫刻です。2月3日から5日まで、氷の彫刻の実演を見ながら、彫刻を楽しむことができます。また、土曜日には、ニューヨーク中国文化センターが提供する旧正月用のランタンを作るための無料DIYキットが用意されています。

is the creative force behind OKAMOTO STUDIO, a NYC-based artist collective best known to produce artful installations and performances out of crystal clear ice since founded in 2003. A second generation ice sculptor whose father Takeo is long recognized for his early contribution to the art form in America, Shintaro embraces the craft and its business as his calling to introduce ice that is most unique and relevant to today’s audience.
 
岡本 慎太郎（おかもと しんたろう）は、
OKAMOTO STUDIOを主導した人です。この団体は2003年に設立された、ニューヨークを拠点とするアーティスト集団で、透明な氷を使った芸術的な作品の設置や制作パフォーマンスで知られています。アメリカでの氷の芸術的発展に長年貢献した父・武雄を受け継いだ慎太郎は、氷の芸術とそのビジネスを天職と考え、今日、観る人にとって最もユニークで、観客に人気のある氷の彫刻作品を取り入れています。

ニューヨークには様々なコミュニティーがありますが、中でもチャイニーズコミュニティーが圧倒的に大きいと思います。日本の和食レストランはたくさんありますが、気軽に入れる雰囲気ではなく、値段がとてつもなく高い。「日本祭り」も楽しいですが、現在の日本を伝え切れていません。ニューヨークの「ジャパンタウン」は？どうアピールしているのか？近くお知らせしますね。
