ニューヨークタイムズで、サマーアカデミーの募集が始まりました。

アメリカでは学校が夏休みに入ると、生徒たちが実際に希望する会社や組織の中で学ぶ機会を持つことができます。ニューヨークタイムズでは、10年生～12年生（日本の高校1年生～３年生）を受け入れています。

今日はニューヨークタイムズのサマーアカデミーのビデオを見て、その目的や生徒たちの感想を聞きたいと思います。

Summer Academy at The School of The New York Times

It's a thing you see every morning when you wake up.

それは、毎朝、目が覚めると目にするものです。

It's right there on the front lawn and you will pick it up and bring it inside.

それは、玄関の芝生に置いてあり、それを拾って家の中に持ち込むものです。

You unwrap it, you put it on your counter and it's there, that's the news.

その包装を解いてカウンターに置きます。そこにあるもの、それがニュースです。

I mean it's spectacular to think that this one newspaper is everywhere, and then to be associated with that. It's just the New York Times. And it's amazing.

この1つの新聞があらゆる場所にあると考えると、それってすごいことで、ましてやそのことに関われるなんて！それがニューヨークタイムズです。信じられないくらい素晴らしいです。

It's really valuable to bring students into workplaces. It's really valuable to have them collide and interact with grown-ups that are not their parents and they're not their teachers. And the people that they're interacting with these are leaders in industries. These guys have a genuine passion for what they do.

学生を職場に連れてくることは、本当に貴重なことです。親ではなく、先生でもない大人とぶつかり、交流することは本当に貴重なことです。しかも、彼らが接するのは業界のリーダーたちです。彼らは自分たちの仕事に純粋な情熱を持っています。

The school of the New York Times tracked so many different people with so many different entrees here. And I think it's just given me a broader sense of the world and where I want to be.

「ザ・スクール・オブ・ザ・ニューヨークタイムズ」では、実にさまざまな職種のさまざまな人たちについて学ばせてくれるのです。そしてより広い世界観を与えてくれて、自分がなりたい姿を与えてくれました。

At this age, for me to be meeting these people and having these experiences, it's tremendous. 

この年齢で、このような人たちと出会い、このような経験をすることは、すごく大きなことだと思います。

These students are incredibly bright beyond creative. 

ここにいる生徒たちはすごく頭が良く、すごく独創的です。

We're just coming here and experiencing all. This kind of makes you break out of yourself and you learn so much about yourself, and your writing and who you are as a person,  and how you connect with other people.

私たちはただここに来て、すべてを体験しているのです。こうしたことで自分の殻を破り、
自分自身についてとか、自分の書くものとか、自分という人間についてとか、他の人とどのようにつながるかとかについて学ぶのです。

Application Process
Summer Academy is open to high school students (grades 10-12 and Graduating Seniors based on the grade the student is entering in the Fall 2023 school year). Students must be 15 years old by the first day of their term. All students new to Summer Academy are required to complete an online application. Our online application can be completed in a few basic steps.

サマーアカデミーは、高校生（2023年秋学年を基準とした10～12年生および（卒業直後の学生）を対象としています。生徒は、学期初日までに15歳になっていることが条件です。サマーアカデミーに初めて参加する生徒は全員、オンライン申込書を作成してください。オンライン申込書には、いくつかの基本的なステップがあります。

Required
Transcript and School Report: Forms must include the school’s grading system and the most recent completed semester grades. Transcripts must be in English and do not need to be official. Report cards for the last two years are acceptable.
Reference: must be a teacher, guidance counselor, coach or school official.

必須事項
成績証明書と学校報告書が必要です。成績証明書は、学校の成績評価と最新の学期末の成績が記載されていること。成績証明書は英文で書いたものが必要です。正式なものである必要はありません。過去2年分の成績表でも可。
推薦状が必要です。教師、ガイダンスカウンセラー、コーチ、学校関係者であること。

Optional
Work/Writing Sample: Students can submit any piece of work as an optional supplement to their application (e.g. research paper, poetry, course assignment, artwork, proposals, etc.)

任意事項
作品、あるいは論文。応募書類を補足するオプションとして、任意の作品を提出することができます（例：研究論文、詩、コース課題、アートワーク、提案書など）。

すでに大学の推薦入学試験のようです。日頃からしっかり勉強して、良い成績、結果を残していないとニューヨークタイムズのサマースクールには参加できないということですね。
