アメリカ女子体操選手団が選手村を「ボルト」した！シモーン選手の演技は、"otherworldly"!!

東京オリンピックが始まりましたね。
連日コロナとの関係のニュースが飛び込んできましたが、今日は、New York Postの記事を読みます。

"bolt"という単語が目を引きました。
名詞ではこのことですね。。。"volt"は「電圧」です。。。

これを動詞で使うと、「２つのものをしっかり固定する」という意味になるのですが、この見出しで使われている"bolt"は次のような意味です。（定義はロングマンからです。）

アメリカ合衆国、女子体操チームがコロナ感染の心配拡大でリンピック村を逃げ出す

Amid heightened concerns over COVID-19, the US women’s gymnastics team has elected to stay in a hotel rather than board in Tokyo’s Olympic Village.

新型コロナウィルスの懸念が注目されている中、アメリカ合衆国の女子体操チームが東京のオリンピック村よりもホテルでの滞在を選んだ。

“It was also a decision that we all made together, we know it isn’t ideal for the Olympic experience but nothing is ideal during a pandemic,” Cecile Landi, the coach for both Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles, wrote on Twitter on Sunday.

これはたち全員一緒に決めたことでした。オリンピックでの理想の形ではないことは分かっていますが、パンデミックのなかでは何事も理想的ではないのです。」とシモーン・バイルスとジョーダン・チルズ両選手のコーチである、セシル・ランディは日曜日ツィッターに投稿した。

"We feel like we can control the athletes and our safety better in a hotel setting!”

「私たちはホテルにいたほうが選手と我々の安全をコントロールできるように思います。」

On Monday, Kara Eaker, an alternate on the team, became the first known COVID-19 case among US Olympians. Eaker, who is vaccinated, tested positive in an Olympic training camp in Narita, Japan. She is currently in quarantine, as is Leanne Wong, a fellow alternate and training mate who was deemed a close contact.

月曜日、アメリカ合衆国のオリンピック選手の中で、控え選手であるカーラ・イーカーに最初に新型コロナウィルス感染が判明した。イーカー選手はワクチン接種を受けていたが日本の成田のトレーニングキャンプで検査の結果陽性と分かった。彼女は現在隔離されている。濃厚接触者となった同じく控え選手でトレーニングメイトのリアンヌ・ウォンも同じく隔離されている。

“The entire delegation continues to be vigilant and will maintain strict protocols while they are in Tokyo,” USA Gymnastics said in a statement Monday.

月曜日、「代表団は引き続き緊張感を持っており、東京にいる間は厳しい規則を守っていく。」とUSAジムナスティックスは声明を出した。

The team’s decision to room in a hotel comes amid a disconcerting rise in COVID-19 cases with the surging Delta variant. As of Monday evening, 71 COVID-19 cases have been connected to the Games, including several permeating the Olympic Village. On Tuesday, Tokyo reported more than 1,300 COVID-19 cases, 550 more than the previous week’s total.

ホテルに部屋をとるというチームの決定はデルタ株が急激に増えた新型コロナウィルス感染拡大で動揺が広がっているからだ。月曜日夕方時点で、オリンピック村に広がっている数件を含んで、オリンピック関連で71件の感染が確認されている。火曜日には、東京都は感染が1,300を越えたと公表しており、トータルで先週を550件上回っている。　

The US team is heavily favored to win its third straight Olympic title in Tokyo, led by the otherworldly Biles. All members of the team are vaccinated.

アメリカチームは異次元レベルの技を持つバイルスを始めとして、東京オリンピックで３回連続のオリンピックタイトルを勝ち取りたいと強く思っている。メンバーはすべてワクチン接種を終えている。
