12月に入って年末に行うボランティア活動を25種類あげてみましょう、と言われてどのくらい考えられるでしょう？

ボランティア・ニューヨークという団体がそれを提示して、ボランティアを募集しているということは、その必要があると考えているということで、またボランティアが集まるということも、その活動に共感する人がいるということを証明しています。

このブログではほんの一部しかご紹介できませんが、今日は15日目の募集を見ます。

"giveaway"というのは、一般には「おまけ」とか「無料サンプル」という意味でよく使われています。キーは、「無料であげるもの」ということです。 

では活動の内容を読みます。

Today's opportunity is for WestCOP – New Rochelle Community Action Partnership. Volunteers are needed for the Annual Holiday Town Toy Giveaway. They will assist with this giveaway before, during and after the event, which is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21. The event will feature gifts, food, music, a train ride and a vendor area for the children and their families. 

今日は、「ウェストコップ」（WestCOP - New Rochelle Community Action Partnership ニューロシェルでの地域支援活動）のご案内です。毎年恒例のHoliday Town Toy Giveaway（ホリデイ・タウンのおもちゃプレゼント）でボランティアを募集しています。このイベントは12月21日（火）午後4時から8時に行われ、イベントの前、間、後に、プレゼントを渡すお手伝いをしていただきたいのです。イベントでは、子供たちやご家族のために、プレゼント配り、食べ物の提供、音楽演奏があり、また、おもちゃの汽車を走らせたり、出店が用意されたりする予定です。

ウェストCOPの非差別ポリシー

ウェストCOPと聞いて、警察官（コップ）がボランティアをするのかな、とおもってしまいましたが、Community Opportunity Programの略だと分かりました。

"opportunity"は、日本語では「機会」という訳語が与えられますが、英語では、単に「チャンス」という意味でとらえずに、「何かをするための機会」、特に「仕事をみつけるため」とか、「生活改善をするため」という意味を含んで使われることが多いと思います。

ウェストCOPが行っているボランティアの中に、Foster Grandparent Programという取り組みがありましたね。どんなことをするのでしょう？
