It just makes them feel this joy inside especially now during the pandemic.

I live in New York City, and I went viral for drawing strangers on the subway.

ニューヨークに住んでいて、地下鉄で知らない人を書くことで広く知られるようになりました。
So, I grew up in the South Bronx in a very rough neighborhood and I've always been interested in art.

結構問題が多いサウスブロンクスで育ちました。アートにはずっと興味がありました。

I always knew that art and drawing was going to save my life.

アートやスケッチすることが私の人生を救ってくれるといつも思っていました。

In middle school, Devon’s dream hung in the balance when he was rejected from The High School of Art and Design.
中学のとき、ハイスクール・オブ・アート・アンド・デザインに不合格となり、デボンの夢は宙ぶらりんになってしまった。

I ended up going to my zone school, Samuel Gompers High School in the South Bronx.

結局、サウスブロンクスにあるサミュエル・ゴンパース高校に通うことになったんです。

In that school, I had this art teacher who was a gem, this guy, his name was Jeremy Harper. He took me under his wing for six months, and we just worked on my portfolio every single day.

その高校には、素晴らしい美術の先生がいました。ジェレミー・ハーパーという人です。
彼は僕を6ヶ月間指導してくれて、毎日一緒にポートフォリオの制作に励みました。

I will never forget he showed me his portfolio and he was like this is the level you have to be at to get accepted and I'm gonna make sure you get there.

忘れられないのは、先生が自分の作品集を見せてくれて、「これが大学に合格するために必要なレベルだ。」「私は君がきっとそこに行けるようにしてやる。」って言うようなことを言ってくれたんです。

He had these subway drawings and I was like, "Wow, you drew these people on the subway?", and he was like, "Yeah, these are just strangers. You should do. That's the best way to practice because you know New York City is a melting pot, so you get a variety of people."

先生は地下鉄でスケッチしていて、僕は「すごい、地下鉄でこの人たちを描いたんですか？」と言ったら、彼は「これが君が描くべき人たちだ。ニューヨークは人種のるつぼだから、いろいろな人が描けるんだ。」と言ったのです。

So I started to do that. It was back in 2010, I started drawing people on the subway.
Fast forward nine years later, 2020, during the pandemic, we're all stuck at home. Tick Tock is booming, so I get back on the subway, drawing people on the subway.

And I record it and I teach myself how to edit. And I edit this video together, and I post it, first one gets 5 million views. And I was like, "Wow, just being myself doing what I've always done."

August 10th, 2020 (2 weeks later) It actually went viral

I was stuck living in the South Bronx with my grandma, so to go viral to 5 million people out there in the world was just incredible to me.

I wanted to make people happy, so I started to give the drawing to people, and ever since then it just exploded. People love the reactions that I get from these strangers.

皆に幸せになってほしいと思ったので、僕の描いたスケッチをあげることを始めました。それ以来ずっと爆発的に拡散しました。人々は見ず知らずの人から僕が受ける反応を見るのが大好きだと言ってくれています。

It just makes so many people happy, and I love the comments that I see. I love all the kids that inspired to pick up a pencil and draw. I love all the non-artists that love my videos and are inspired to do a good deed in this world and make a stranger happy.

多くの人を幸せな気分にさせるだけなんですけれど、僕はそこで得られるコメントが好きです。鉛筆を手に取り、絵を描こうと思うようになった子供たちがいてすごく嬉しいです。私のビデオを気に入ってくれて、この世界でコツコツいいことをして、見知らぬ人を幸せにしようと思ってくれるプロではない人たちも大好きです。

In just over a year, Devon’s TikTok as rocked from zero to more than 22 million followers.
わずか1年余りで、デボンのティックトックはゼロから2200万人以上のフォロワー達成となりました。

He is now the most followed artist on the platform and has even been named in Forbs 30 Under 30.
今やティックトックで最もフォローされているアーティストとなり、フォーブス 30 （30歳未満のカテゴリー）にも選出されました。

You know, it's like since the first day that I made my first viral Tic Tock, life hasn't been the same.

初めて話題性の高いティックトックを作った日からずっと今までとは違う人生を歩んでいるような気がします。

I would say Tick Tock is the best thing that's ever happened in my life, and it's just a dream come true, and every day I pinch myself and I can't even believe it.

ティックトックは私の人生で最高の出来事と言えると思いますし、まさに夢のようで、毎日本当にこれが現実かって信じられない気持ちです。
