４つ星ホテルが移民のためにシェルターとなった！

昨日のブログでは、ニューヨークに流入する移民のためのテントを建てたのだが、そこは「ホーム」ではない、移民には「ホーム」を与えるべきだという擁護派の団体や議員（主に民主党）の集会のことを取り上げました。

市も対策を進めていますが、ニューヨーク市民や企業、商店、団体がすぐに反応しています。その中でタイムズスクェアにある４つ星ホテルが協力しているという記事があったのでご紹介します。

タイムズスクエアのホテルが移民家族の一時避難所になる

A four-star Times Square hotel will become an emergency shelter for hundreds of migrant families, Mayor Eric Adams announced on Wednesday. Located at 700 8th Avenue in Midtown West, the Row NYC Hotel will house at least 200 families, with the ability to host more in the coming weeks. The hotel, the second intake center/shelter to open for asylum seekers in the city, will offer food, medical care, casework services, and a “range of settlement options,” according to a press release.

タイムズスクエアの4つ星ホテルが、数百人の移民家族のための緊急シェルターとなることを、エリック・アダムズ市長が水曜日に発表しました。ミッドタウン・ウエストの8番街700 に位置する「ロウ・ニューヨークホテル(Row NYC Hotel)」は、少なくとも200の家族を収容し、今後数週間でさらに多くの家族を受け入れることができるようにする予定です。報道によると、このホテルは、市内で2番目の難民受け入れセンター兼シェルターとしてオープンし、食事、医療ケア、ケースワークサービス、といった「さまざまな定住のための選択肢」を提供するとのことです。

At least 18,600 asylum seekers have arrived in the city since the spring. The city’s shelter system has also seen an influx in its population, reaching more than 61,000 last week. The shelter population is expected to hit 100,000 people if nothing is done.

春以降、少なくとも1万8600人の援助を求める人たちがニューヨークに来ています。市の避難所にも人口が流入し、先週は6万1000人以上に達しました。何もしなければ、シェルター人口は10万人に達すると予想されています。

Adams last Friday declared a state of emergency due to the surge in migrants, and this week began the construction of a “humanitarian emergency response and relief center” on Randall’s Island. Originally, the center was planned for Orchard Beach in the Bronx but was scrapped after the area flooded.

アダムズ市長は先週金曜日、移民の急増に非常事態を宣言し、今週からランドールズ島に「人道的緊急対応・救援センター」の建設を始めました。当初、この建設はブロンクスのオーチャード・ビーチに計画されていたのですが、浸水がおきたため、取り消しになったのです。

To further combat the surge, Adams on Wednesday called upon affordable housing developers to accept more homeless families at their buildings in order to free up space in the city’s shelter system for migrants.

さらに、アダムズ氏は水曜日に、移民のためのシェルター建設のスペースを確保するために、手頃な価格で住宅を提供している開発業者に、より多くのホームレス家族を彼らが手がける住宅で受け入れるよう呼びかけました。

“As the number of asylum seekers entering New York City continues to increase without an end in sight, the city’s family-focused Humanitarian Emergency Response and Relief Center will soon open to serve families with children and provide them with the care and compassion they deserve,” Adams said.

We will continue to respond with care and compassion as we deal with this humanitarian crisis made by human hands.”

The city has also opened 46 hotels as emergency shelters, connected asylum seekers with resources, and enrolled children in public schools.

また、市は46のホテルを緊急避難所として開放し、移民と彼らが必要とするものを結びつけ、子どもたちを公立学校に入学させました。
