ニューヨークタイムズ紙に見た"ame futo"と"power hara"

MisTyが読んだ記事がこれ。

普通なら、あの反則タックルは単なる重大なペナルティーとなっていただろう。

しかし日本では現在のような流れになったのだ。そして日本で起こったあの試合と、あの試合を引き起こした何かは、日本に深く根ざしている文化的要因を広く考えさせるきっかけとなったのである。それは、日本人のいういわゆる「パワハラ」つまり権力を持つ者による（地位的に下の者に対する）抑圧的行為である。そういう人たちは相手の意思を考えずに権威的に物事を推し進める。

あのひどいぶつかりから約３週間が経った。アメリカではアメリカンフットボールのことである「アメフト」についての話題が日本中でもちきりだ。

ぶつかった様子がビデオに撮られ、フットボールにほとんど日の目が当たっていない国で、何度も何度もとぎれることなく映し出されている。

The linebacker has been suspended, the coach of the team from Nihon University has resigned, schools have canceled their games against Nihon, and a national conversation about the inherent dangers of the game and its place in Japanese society is at a full boil."

当ののラインバッカーは出場停止、日本大学のコーチは辞任、日本大学との試合は続々キャンセル、元々の試合の危険性はあちこちで語られ、日本社会の中は沸騰状態だ。

"Baseball, soccer and sumo dominate the Japanese sports psyche. American football, which American missionaries brought to Japan in the 1930s, is barely a blip on the sports radar. But this incident has highlighted “power hara” and the obedience to authority and unwavering loyalty to the team that are highly valued in Japan."

野球やサッカー、相撲は日本人の心に入り込んでいるスポーツだ。アメリカンフットボールは、1930年代にアメリカ人宣教師たちが日本に持ち込んだもので、スポーツとしてはほとんど注目されていない。しかし今回のこの出来事によって、「パワハラ」、そして日本で高く評価される権力に対する服従、チームに対する確固たる忠誠心を浮き彫りになった。　　　

"It has also shaken a country that has an almost pious adherence to “fair play” in sports, and prompted coaches, university officials and politicians to question the violence of the game."

今回の出来事はスポーツに対して絶対的とも言える「フェアプレイ」を求める国を揺るがし、コーチ、大学関係者、政治家を巻き込んでの試合の違法性を問いただしている。

[パワーハラスメント」はいかにも英単語のようですが、和製英語です。「パワハラ」は英語では"abuse of authority"と表現されています。"Power Hara"が英語として定着する日が来るかもしれませんが。。。
